Real Madrid have confirmed that captain Dani Carvajal will undergo further surgery on his right knee, ruling him out for an extended spell just days after making his comeback from injury.
The 33-year-old defender featured as a late substitute in Sunday’s 2-1 Clasico victory over Barcelona but complained of discomfort afterward.
Subsequent scans revealed the presence of a loose body in his right knee joint, prompting the decision for arthroscopic surgery.
Although Madrid did not specify a recovery timeline, Spanish media reports suggest Carvajal could be sidelined for six to ten weeks.
The setback means he will miss next week’s Champions League trip to Liverpool and the home clash with Manchester City on December 10.
It marks another frustrating blow for the veteran right-back, who spent much of last season out with a similar knee problem.
His absence also rules him out of Spain’s World Cup qualifiers in November, leaving both club and country to adjust yet again without one of their most experienced figures.
