Celtic’s European troubles deepened as Wilfried Nancy’s side fell 3-0 to Roma in the Europa League, leaving the new manager with two home defeats from two matches.
Roma struck early when Liam Scales headed into his own net after six minutes, and Celtic never recovered.
The visitors kept piling on the pressure, with Evan Ferguson hitting the post and Kasper Schmeichel forced into several saves before Roma doubled their lead.
Zeki Celik’s low cross found Ferguson, who tapped in his first Europa League goal.
Celtic briefly responded, but Reo Hatate’s poor miss was punished immediately as Matias Soule set up Ferguson for his second just before half-time.
The hosts had a chance to pull one back, but Arne Engels hit the post from the penalty spot.
Nancy introduced Kelechi Iheanacho at the break, but the striker missed a big chance and later had a goal ruled out for offside.
Roma also had a Leon Bailey strike disallowed, but the Italians remained in control and saw out a comfortable win.
The defeat leaves Celtic hanging onto the final qualifying place, while Roma move to within a point of the top eight.
