Nigeria’s Super Eagles B will begin their quest for continental glory against defending champions Senegal on Tuesday, with coach Eric Chelle declaring his side ready for the high-stakes CHAN opener in Zanzibar City.

Chelle, who oversaw a four-week preparation camp, is relishing the challenge of facing one of Africa’s most dominant sides.

“I don’t know if it’s a derby, but I know this is a match between two big countries in African football, Senegal and Nigeria,” he said. “There is a lot of history between them. They’ve both produced great teams and generations over time, and this will be a great game.”

The clash at Amaan Stadium will be Nigeria’s first CHAN appearance since finishing as runners-up in 2018, while Senegal arrive on a 10-match unbeaten run in regulation time and aiming to extend their grip over West African opposition.

Chelle believes his squad is primed for a strong start. “Our preparation has been very good, we are ready to play this first game and to apply everything we have worked on during the past four weeks,” he said.

Nigeria, known for their attacking flair with 25 goals across 15 CHAN matches, hope to break Senegal’s streak and set the tone for a deep tournament run.

A result here could also signal a potential shift in West African football supremacy.
