Super Eagles B coach Daniel Ogunmodede has expressed disappointment over the postponement of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which led to the team halting their preparations after weeks of camping.

The tournament, initially set for February in East Africa, was rescheduled for August by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), disrupting the team’s plans despite the group stage draw being conducted.

“We were disappointed, and it reflected in our reactions during Wednesday’s match,” Ogunmodede said. “The effort we put in, even during the festive period, was immense. But we’ll stay focused—it’s beyond our control.”

The Super Eagles B, drawn into Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo, will need to regroup later in the year.

Ogunmodede emphasized that players would need to maintain form to secure spots in the squad when preparations resume.

“There are no automatic places. Players must stay consistent and aligned with our ideology,” he added.

New national team coach Eric Chelle, who joined the camp before the postponement, was expected to supervise the team during CHAN. The delay has added uncertainty to the team’s roadmap for the competition.
