Chelsea have pulled the plug on Nicolas Jackson’s proposed loan move to Bayern Munich following Liam Delap’s hamstring injury.
Delap was forced off just 14 minutes into Saturday’s 2-0 win over Fulham, with head coach Enzo Maresca later confirming the striker is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks.
The setback has prompted Chelsea to recall Jackson, despite an agreement reportedly being in place with Bayern for a season-long loan with an option to buy worth up to €80million (£69m).
Delap, a £30m summer signing from Ipswich Town, had been expected to compete with Joao Pedro and Jackson for minutes in attack.
His absence, however, would have left Pedro as the only fit senior centre-forward available.
“When you have two strikers it is enough, when one of them is injured for weeks it is not enough,” Maresca said after the match. “Today we played more than one hour with Tyrique (George) and he did brilliant. But of course, we need two proper No 9s.”
