Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that striker Nicolas Jackson will be sidelined until April due to a significant hamstring injury.
The Senegal international suffered the setback against West Ham earlier this month, and scans have now revealed he could miss up to eight weeks.
“Nico will be out until the international break, probably available after that,” Maresca said. “Unfortunately, it is an important injury.”
Maresca also revealed that Marc Guiu will be out for an extended period, while Romeo Lavia, Benoit Badiashile, and Wesley Fofana are working towards full fitness.
With Jackson and Guiu unavailable, Christopher Nkunku is expected to take on a greater role in attack. “Christo is a solution, but not the only one,” Maresca noted.
Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Brighton on Friday, Maresca defended his team’s progress despite recent setbacks in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. “Our journey in the Premier League has been fantastic so far,” he insisted.
Meanwhile, Maresca confirmed that Filip Jorgensen has overtaken Robert Sanchez as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. “Filip is our keeper at the moment,” he stated, signaling a major shift in Chelsea’s goalkeeping hierarchy.
