Chelsea secured a much-needed 3-1 win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge, ending their five-game winless run in the Premier League and climbing into the top four.
After Tosin Adarabioyo’s opener was canceled out by Matt Doherty’s equalizer, Chelsea regained control in the second half with quick goals from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke.
Cucurella marked his 100th Premier League appearance with a close-range finish after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall flicked on Madueke’s cross.
Moments later, Madueke extended the lead with a header following Trevoh Chalobah’s well-timed assist from a corner.
Chelsea’s win, however, was not without drama. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s error allowed Doherty to level the score in first-half stoppage time.
Matheus Cunha spotted Sanchez off his line and delivered a cross that the Spanish keeper failed to clear, leading to Wolves’ goal. It was Sanchez’s fourth error leading to a goal this season, prompting further scrutiny over his selection.
Despite criticism, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca defended his keeper, stating: “Mistakes happen, but he has saved us more times than he has cost us.”
Adarabioyo’s opening goal, initially ruled offside, was awarded after a VAR review, with Reece James’ deflected effort providing the assist.
The victory pushes Chelsea to fourth place, two points clear of Manchester City and Newcastle United.
Wolves, on the other hand, remain in 17th place with the league’s highest goals conceded tally of 51, staying out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
