Chelsea have bolstered their squad with the signings of Sporting CP midfielders Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo in a deal worth £62.4m, the Portuguese club has confirmed.
Quenda, a 17-year-old winger, will cost Chelsea up to £44m but will remain at Sporting until the end of the 2025-26 season.
The teenager has enjoyed a breakthrough season, making his Champions League debut in September, and is regarded as one of Portugal’s most exciting young talents.
Essugo, a 20-year-old defensive midfielder, will move to Stamford Bridge this summer after his loan spell at Las Palmas. Sporting have confirmed his transfer fee at £18.4m. The youngster has impressed in La Liga, though his discipline has been a concern, with two red cards in his last four games.
While Chelsea fans will have to wait to see Quenda in action, Essugo could be part of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this summer.
The Portuguese duo join Chelsea’s growing list of highly-rated young signings, with Brazilian Estevão Willian and Ecuadorian Kendry Páez also set to arrive this summer as the Blues continue their youth-focused recruitment strategy.
