In a tragic turn of events on Christmas Day, December 25, a fighter jet mistakenly bombed Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The airstrike, intended to target the Lakurawa terrorist group, left many villagers dead and several others injured, according to Daily Trust.
Malam Yahya, a resident of Silame, revealed that the villages are near the Surame Forest, known as a hideout for terrorists and bandits.
Another source reported that over 10 villagers lost their lives, while others suffered varying degrees of injuries during the attack.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, which has left the affected communities in mourning.
