In a show of goodwill and commitment to workers’ welfare, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the early payment of December salaries and pensions for all civil servants and retirees on the state government’s payroll.

The payments, which began on Friday, December 13, 2024, aim to ease financial burdens and enable residents to adequately prepare for the festive season. This gesture reflects Governor Zulum’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and promoting the well-being of the state’s workforce during the yuletide period.

Under Governor Zulum’s leadership, Borno State has gained recognition for progressive labor policies, including being one of the first states to implement a ₦70,000 minimum wage for workers. This latest directive further underscores his commitment to improving the livelihoods of public servants and retirees.

In a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, the administration emphasized its dedication to inclusivity during the festive season. “Governor Zulum directed, as usual, that no affected Christians, Muslims, or others should feel left out during and after the yuletide. This reflects the multi-inclusivity and socio-cultural harmony that exists among the peaceful people of Borno, especially at this time,” the statement read.

The statement also praised Governor Zulum’s consistency in prioritizing timely payments. “His Excellency, Professor Babagana Zulum, has done it again. December credit alerts for salaries and pensions have started reaching beneficiaries to ensure Christians and others prepare for a meaningful yuletide on time,” Iliya added.

During the recent presentation of the 2025 budget to the State Assembly, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s focus on enhancing workers’ welfare. Key initiatives include upgrading the state’s salary payment system, implementing a new ₦72,000 minimum wage, and addressing outstanding gratuities for deceased workers.

The Governor also urged residents to continue praying for peace and stability in Borno State and across the nation. He acknowledged the positive impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting its contributions to the well-being of citizens in Borno and beyond.

Governor Zulum’s proactive approach to worker welfare and inclusivity has further solidified his reputation as a compassionate and people-centered leader, bringing hope and relief to thousands of families during the festive season.
