The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken a bold step in the fight against corruption by dragging a civil servant, Mr. Oseni Adeolu Olayinka, to court. Olayinka, an Executive Officer at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, allegedly secretly added his wife and son to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) portal of the ministry between 2023 and 2024 ¹.

The ICPC accused Olayinka of acquiring millions of naira through this illicit means and corruptly receiving salaries through his wife’s and son’s accounts, thereby committing an offence of money laundering The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge and was granted bail on very liberal terms, with an N5 million bond and a surety who must be a civil servant not below grade level 12.

The case has been adjourned to April 29 for the commencement of trial. This development comes as the ICPC continues to crack down on corruption in the country, including the declaration of two ex-military officers who wanted over alleged N3 billion fraud.
