Italy booked their place in a third straight Davis Cup final after Flavio Cobolli produced a stunning comeback to defeat Belgium’s Zizou Bergs and seal a 2-0 semi-final win.
The 23-year-old saved seven match points in a dramatic 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-6(15) victory, with the final-set tiebreak delivering one of the most memorable moments in recent Davis Cup history.
Matteo Berrettini had earlier given Italy the lead with a composed 6-3, 6-4 win over Raphael Collignon, extending his singles winning streak in the competition to 10 matches.
Italy now move one win away from a historic three-peat, facing either Germany or Spain in Sunday’s final.
No nation has won three consecutive Davis Cup titles since the end of the Challenge Round era in 1971.
