The Dallas Mavericks have secured the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, winning Monday night’s lottery and setting the stage for what could be a franchise-altering offseason.
It marks just the second time in team history the Mavericks will select first overall, the only other instance came in 1981, when Dallas picked future three-time All-Star Mark Aguirre.
Now, all eyes turn to Duke sensation Cooper Flagg, the projected top pick and a generational forward expected to usher in a new era in Dallas.
The lottery triumph comes months after the Mavericks made the stunning decision to trade franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers before the February deadline, a move that raised eyebrows across the league.
But with Flagg looming as a transformative prospect, the front office’s bold play may soon pay off.
The Mavs haven’t drafted inside the top three since 1994, when they selected future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd.
Landing the top pick now gives them a rare chance to reset and rebuild with a young star at the center of their future.
