Publisher and politician, Dele Momodu, has strongly criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, describing the move as “the most reckless decision in the history of our nascent democracy.”
In a statement posted on his Instagram page, Momodu accused the PDP of “shooting itself in the leg” by yielding to what he termed “cheap and puerile blackmail” from opposition figures allegedly working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The PDP finally succumbed to the cheap and puerile blackmail of the black sheep in the opposition who are openly and daringly working for the ruling party.
“The shame of it was seeing seasoned politicians congratulate themselves for taking the most reckless decision in our young democracy by zoning the 2027 presidential candidacy to the South,” he wrote.
Momodu directly linked the development to former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu, claiming their political alliance is shaping PDP’s direction.
“Who does not know that the hand is Wike’s but the voice is Tinubu’s? Their game plan is not hidden,” he said, accusing Wike of dictating to governors who “could not even rescue one of their own, Governor Sim Fubara, when his government came under siege.”
He further argued that PDP has effectively ceded its structure to Tinubu’s re-election: “The geniuses should admit that Tinubu will be the joint candidate of APC and PDP in 2027. Give it to Wike, love him or hate him, you always know where he stands, however preposterous.”
According to him, speculations about Goodluck Jonathan, Peter Obi, or Seyi Makinde emerging as PDP’s standard-bearer are “blatant lies from the pit of hell.”
Momodu also accused the PDP of political hypocrisy, recalling that zoning was abandoned in 2022 when Wike himself sought the vice-presidential slot under a northern candidate.
He questioned why party leaders are now insisting on southern zoning.
“What about when President Yar’Adua died and Jonathan not only completed his term but almost spent nine years in power before losing in 2015? Where were these zoning advocates then? Where were they when Tinubu ran on a Muslim-Muslim ticket?” he asked. “The hypocrisy behind this zoning decision stinks to high heavens. Truth must not be selective,” he added.
