Luis Diaz hit a hat-trick and Harry Kane scored twice from the penalty spot as Bayern
Munich cruised past 10-man Hoffenheim to restore a six-point cushion at the top of the
Bundesliga.
Bayern made a fast start when Kane converted an early penalty after Diaz was fouled,
an incident that also saw Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma sent off. The visitors
briefly responded through Andrej Kramaric, but parity did not last long.
Kane struck again to restore Bayern’s lead, taking his tally to 38 goals in all
competitions, before turning provider late in the first half with a pass that allowed Diaz to
make it 3-1.
Bayern took complete control after the break, with Diaz tapping in from close range after
being picked out by Michael Olise, before completing his hat-trick in the closing stages.
The convincing win came after Borussia Dortmund had cut Bayern’s advantage to three
points a day earlier, but the champions quickly reasserted control at the summit with a
dominant display.
