World number one Jannik Sinner will begin his Australian Open title defense against Nicolas Jarry, while Novak Djokovic faces a challenging path that could lead to a quarter-final showdown with Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner, who won his first major in Melbourne last year, could face Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas or Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals, and potentially Daniil Medvedev in the semis.

However, the 23-year-old is still under scrutiny following doping tests earlier this year, with an appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency pending.

Djokovic, aiming for his 11th Australian Open and 25th Grand Slam, starts against American wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy. He could meet Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round and face Alcaraz in the quarters.

In the women’s draw, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka begins against Sloane Stephens, while Coco Gauff faces 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin.

Top seed Iga Swiatek faces Katerina Siniakova in the first round. The tournament begins Sunday.
