Dortmund Escape with Draw After Fluminense Dominance

DORTMUND

Borussia Dortmund rode their luck in a goalless draw with Fluminense as the Brazilian side dominated their Group F opener at the FIFA Club World Cup in Orlando.

Renato Gaúcho’s men dictated the tempo throughout and carved out the better chances, particularly in a one-sided first half where Jhon Arias and Matheus Martinelli tested Gregor Kobel repeatedly.

Dortmund, flat and disjointed, managed only a few tame efforts, with Fabio largely untested in the Fluminense goal.

The pattern continued after the break. Hércules blazed over, Everaldo misjudged a counter-attack by passing instead of shooting, and Kobel pulled off a stunning close-range save to deny Nonato.

Fluminense had 11 shots to Dortmund’s four and looked sharper in every department except finishing.

Despite their dominance, the Tricolor had to settle for a point, while Dortmund remained unbeaten in four matches against Brazilian opposition.
