Niger State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Bago, has confirmed the arrest of notorious terrorist kingpin, Abubakar Abba.
Abba is the leader of the dreaded Mahmuda terrorist organisation operating in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State and parts of Kwara State.
Governor Bago said operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) apprehended Abba in Wawa town during an intelligence-led operation, without a single shot being fired.
“Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been arrested by the DSS,” said Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, quoting Bago in a Facebook post.
According to Ibrahim, Abba’s arrest marks a “huge victory” for both the people and the government. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to ending insecurity, noting that the successful operation was a testament to the capacity of the nation’s security services.
Bago also lauded recent security appointments made by President Tinubu, saying: “It takes a tremendous degree of intelligence and competence to capture a high-profile terrorist like Abba without firing a single shot. Where there is a will, there is a way, and Mr. President has shown that willpower.”
The governor pledged continued collaboration between the Niger State government, the federal government, and security agencies to eliminate terrorism in the country.
