Nigeria’s D’Tigers stormed into the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket with a commanding 99-90 win over Cameroon in Luanda, sealing top spot in their group with a perfect record.
Both teams entered the decisive clash unbeaten, but after Cameroon’s fast 5-0 start, Nigeria quickly found their rhythm.
A 28-25 first-quarter lead set the tone, before Mohammed Abdul Rahman’s men blew the game wide open with a dominant 32-16 second quarter to take a 60-41 halftime advantage.
The D’Tigers pressed home their superiority in the third quarter with a 26-12 run, effectively ending the contest.
Though Cameroon staged a late rally, outscoring Nigeria 37-13 in the final period, the damage had long been done.
Josh Okogie led Nigeria with 16 points, while Caleb Agada, Stan Okoye, Christian Mekowulu, Ike Nwamu and Martins Igbanu all hit double figures in a balanced scoring display.
Cameroon’s Fabien Ateba top-scored with 19 points, supported by Yves Missi (18) and Jeremiah Hill (16).
Statistically, Nigeria were clinical, shooting 57.4% from the field, pulling down 37 rebounds and tallying 21 assists with 13 steals.
Cameroon managed just 41% shooting and turned the ball over 16 times.
The win means Nigeria, champions in 2015, finish the group phase with six points from three games.
Cameroon progressed in second place, defending champions Tunisia settled for third, while Madagascar exited without a win.
