Abuja, Nigeria – Engr. Sadat Itohan Ihwughwavwe, a distinguished Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) professional, was awarded an honorary fellowship at the 34th annual conference of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), held last week in Abuja from October 22 -25, 2025. This prestigious recognition highlights her significant contributions to environmental management and sustainability in the oil and gas sector.
With over 20 years of extensive experience in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment, Engr. Ihwughwavwe has established herself as a leading figure in her field. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of areas, including Environmental Risk Management, Incident Investigations, and Hazardous Waste Management, making her a pivotal player in the industry.
Engr. Ihwughwavwe holds a Master of Business Administration in Health and Safety Leadership from UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from the University of Benin, Nigeria. Additionally, she is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), certified by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) in the USA, and a Fellow of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON).
Currently serving as a Senior Environmental Specialist at Chevron Nigeria Limited, Engr. Ihwughwavwe has held various leadership roles since joining the company in 2007. Her work has been instrumental in shaping environmental policy implementation and enhancing regulatory compliance within the oil and gas industry. She has led crucial environmental studies and audits, secured essential regulatory approvals, and championed numerous initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable practices.
