Enyimba FC of Aba endured a disappointing 3-0 loss to Mozambique’s Black Bulls in their CAF Confederation Cup Group D match at the Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto on Sunday. The CAF Confederation Cup is Africa’s second-tier club competition, organized annually by the Confederation of African Football for teams from across the continent.
The Nigerian champions, who remain winless in the group stage, sit at the bottom of the table after a poor start to their campaign.
Black Bulls took the lead in the 16th minute through Rume Akporoh, who headed in a corner to delight the home crowd. Despite Enyimba’s attempts to find an equalizer, the first half ended with the Nigerian side trailing.
In the second half, defensive frailties continued to haunt Enyimba as Fidel Suosa doubled the hosts’ lead in the 57th minute, again from a corner. Seven minutes later, Ayuba Francis, a Nigerian under-20 international, came off the bench to score a clinical third, sealing an emphatic victory for the Mozambican side.
The defeat marked Enyimba’s second loss in three group-stage matches, leaving them with just one point and extending their winless run to eight games across all competitions. The team’s current form raises concerns as they struggle to regain momentum under Coach Yemi Olanrewaju.
Black Bulls, with four points, climbed to third place in Group D, behind Zamalek and Al-Masry, who were set to clash in an Egyptian derby later in the evening.
Enyimba will hope to turn their fortunes around when they host Black Bulls in the reverse fixture on January 5 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. A win in the home encounter could reignite their chances in the competition, but the team will need to address their defensive weaknesses and rediscover their scoring form to stay in contention.
