The winds of change have swept through the Aba Elephants. Enyimba FC, Nigeria’s most successful football club, has confirmed the exit of head coach Yemi Olanrewaju following a disappointing run of form.

In a dramatic twist, former Rivers United tactician Stanley Eguma has been announced as his replacement.

The announcement of Olanrewaju’s departure came on Saturday after Enyimba’s return from a goalless draw against Plateau United in Jos.

However, images of Eguma’s unveiling in Aba had already started circulating online even before the club made it official.

“Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olanrewaju,” the club’s statement read. “We thank Coach Olanrewaju for his services and wish him success in his future endeavors.”

The decision is hardly surprising. The Aba giants are winless in their last nine matches across all competitions, including two defeats in their opening three CAF Confederation Cup games.

They currently sit in 11th place in the NPFL standings, with three games in hand.

Eguma, a seasoned manager with a reputation for turning around struggling teams, now takes the reins at Enyimba.

The veteran coach led Rivers United to the 2021 NPFL title during his long stint, which began when the club was formed in 2016.

Enyimba fans will hope Eguma can bring stability and return the club to its glory days. For now, all eyes are on the new boss as he prepares to lead the team out of its current slump.
