Enyimba’s aspirations of progressing in the CAF Confederation Cup took a hit following a 1-1 home draw against Egypt’s Al Masry on Sunday.
The People’s Elephants fell behind early when Mohamed Hashem struck in the 8th minute, capitalizing on a well-executed corner.
Despite relentless efforts to equalize, Stanley Eguma’s side couldn’t break through in the first half.
Their persistence paid off shortly after the break when Ifeanyi Ihemekwele netted his second goal of the competition in the 47th minute.
However, despite the introduction of veteran forward Brown Ideye in the 58th minute, Enyimba failed to find a winner.
Al Masry had an opportunity to reclaim the lead in the 68th minute, but goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena saved a penalty to keep the score level.
With the draw, Enyimba remain third in Group D with five points. To qualify for the next round, they must secure a victory against already-qualified Zamalek in Egypt next Sunday, while hoping Black Bulls defeat Al Masry in their concurrent match.
