The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year, respectively.

The announcement was made on Sunday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the Minister called on Nigerians to use the festive period as an opportunity to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that define the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“Christmas is a season for spiritual reflection and national renewal,” the statement noted. “As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, let us embody kindness and demonstrate goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences.”

Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the festive season is a time to strengthen family bonds, promote communal harmony, and encourage peaceful coexistence across the country. He urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of the season by fostering unity and contributing to the nation’s collective progress.

“The holidays provide a unique opportunity for us to come together as one people,” the Minister said. “It is a time to appreciate the importance of togetherness, extend love to our neighbors, and renew our commitment to building a better Nigeria.”

The statement also highlighted the Federal Government’s hope that the celebrations will inspire Nigerians to work toward a united and prosperous nation. Citizens were urged to celebrate responsibly and ensure that the true essence of the season is upheld.

As the public prepares for the holidays, the Federal Government’s message resonates with millions of Nigerians eager to embrace the joy, hope, and renewal that the season brings. With the declaration of these holidays, families and communities across the country are expected to come together in celebration, reflection, and shared aspirations for a brighter future.

The public holidays will allow Nigerians to mark the Christmas festivities and usher in the new year with a renewed sense of purpose and unity.
