Former champions Bendel Insurance and Rangers International are set to rekindle their historic rivalry in a highly anticipated round of 16 clash at the President Federation Cup today in Lagos.
With ten titles between them, Rangers holding six and Insurance four, the two Nigerian football giants will face off at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, a venue steeped in their shared cup history.
They’ve met thrice in the competition, including the 1978 and 1981 finals held at this same ground, and most recently, the 2023 final which Insurance won 1-0.
Rangers come into the fixture with just three wins in their last ten NPFL matches and will be hoping to turn around their fortunes under coach Fidelis Ilechukwu.
“We’ve prepared well and believe we can overcome,” he said ahead of the clash.
In contrast, Insurance have been in impressive form, climbing to fifth in the league and recently defeating Adamawa United 3-0 to reach this stage of the Cup.
Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m., with a place in the quarterfinals on the line for two of Nigeria’s most decorated sides.
