The Federal Government has attributed the recent drop in food prices to its strategic policies aimed at alleviating economic hardship and ensuring food security across the country. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, made this assertion on Monday, emphasizing that the government remains committed to tackling Nigeria’s food crisis through targeted interventions.
Kyari stated that the declining cost of staple food items is not coincidental but rather the outcome of well-executed policies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that the administration has taken decisive steps to address food inflation, stabilize markets, and increase agricultural productivity, all of which are now yielding positive results.
“Over the past months, we’ve taken strategic steps to combat rising food prices, and the results are clear—staple food prices are dropping significantly. This is not by chance but a result of decisive government action and unwavering policy implementation under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Kyari stated.
The Minister reassured Nigerians that the administration’s efforts were just beginning, with further measures planned to enhance food production and ensure affordability for all citizens. He stressed that the government remains dedicated to fair pricing, improved food distribution systems, and strengthening agricultural productivity to prevent hunger.
Despite these developments, Kyari acknowledged that certain traders have attempted to manipulate the market through hoarding and artificial inflation. However, he maintained that the government’s interventions were successfully counteracting such practices, ensuring that food prices continued to decline.
“Despite attempts by a few unscrupulous traders to hoard food and artificially inflate prices, our interventions are ensuring a continuous drop in food costs. This progress reflects the bold vision of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes food affordability and security for all Nigerians,” he added.
Kyari assured the public that the government would intensify its efforts to consolidate these gains, working to further lower food costs and boost agricultural output. He called on Nigerians to support these initiatives, emphasizing that achieving a food-secure nation requires collective effort from all stakeholders, including farmers, traders, and consumers.
The Minister reaffirmed the administration’s goal of ensuring that no Nigerian goes to bed hungry, stressing that the Renewed Hope Agenda remains focused on making food more accessible and affordable nationwide. He urged Nigerians to remain optimistic, as the government continues to implement policies aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector and stabilizing the economy.
