The Federal Government has announced the release of the results of this year’s National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) of the Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs). The National Examinations Council (NECO) conducted the examination on June 14, and a total of 64,578 candidates were registered, 61,290 wrote, while 3,288 were absent.
Results of the independent entrance examination into the Federal Government Academy (FGA), Suleja, Niger State, were also released.
Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, made the announcement at a press briefing in Abuja. With her was NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, who formally presented the results.
Prof. Ahmad described the event as “a moment of fulfilment and progress for basic education in Nigeria.” However, she bemoaned the 52 cases of examination malpractice found this year—50 from
and 2 from Lagos.
Regarding the FGA Suleja examination, she announced that 3,421 candidates registered, 3,141 wrote, whereas 280 were absent. The lowest mark was 1, while the highest was 194.
The minister reaffirmed admission quotas in Unity Colleges:
60% merit
30% equality of state representation
10% exigency
She directed the Department of Senior Secondary Education to complete the admissions with immediate effect and in strict compliance with the approved guidelines.
Prof. Ahmad also promised parents government’s continued effort to improve the quality of Unity Colleges. “It is common knowledge that our Federal Unity Colleges have become the first port of call for most parents in the country,” she said.
“I want to assure all Nigerian parents that the government will continue to invest in infrastructure, school feeding, and teacher quality to foster effective teaching and learning.”
