FIFA Approves Okonkwo’s Switch to Represent Nigeria.
FIFA has approved Arthur Okonkwo’s request to switch allegiance from England to
Nigeria, clearing the Wrexham goalkeeper for international duty.
The 24-year-old, born in London to Nigerian parents, previously represented England at the youth level but completed his eligibility process in January 2026.
Administrative delays had ruled him out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite
prior talks with Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
Okonkwo is now available for selection ahead of Nigeria’s March invitational
tournament in Amman, where the Super Eagles will face Iran and hosts Jordan.
His clearance comes at a crucial time, with uncertainty surrounding the first-choice
goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
The former Arsenal academy product has impressed at Wrexham this season,
recording six clean sheets in 20 league appearances.
