FIFA has officially disqualified Mexican club, Club Leon from the 2025 Club World Cup due to a breach of multi-ownership regulations, with a replacement set to be announced soon.
The ruling stems from the fact that Leon and Pachuca, both owned by the Pachuca Group, cannot compete in the same tournament under FIFA’s rules.
After a disciplinary review, the FIFA Appeals Committee determined that the clubs failed to meet the required ownership criteria outlined in Article 10, paragraph 1 of the tournament regulations.
As a result, Leon has been removed from the competition, leaving a vacant spot in Group D, where they were set to face Chelsea, Flamengo, and Esperance de Tunis. FIFA is expected to name a replacement club in the coming days.
