FIFA has officially confirmed Saudi Arabia as the host nation for the 2034 men’s World Cup, following a unanimous vote during its Extraordinary Congress.

This decision comes alongside the announcement of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as joint hosts for the 2030 tournament, with celebratory matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to mark the competition’s centenary.

While the English FA endorsed both bids, citing assurances of fan safety, nations like Norway and Denmark expressed concerns about the bidding process and human rights issues.

Critics have labeled Saudi Arabia’s involvement as “sportswashing,” spotlighting the kingdom’s human rights record.

Saudi Arabia has plans for 15 stadiums for the event, with only four completed to date, as it prepares to welcome the world in 2034.
