Flamengo booked their place in the Intercontinental Cup final after a composed 2-0 win over Egypt’s Pyramids in Doha, setting up a blockbuster showdown with European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian side did the damage from set-pieces, with both goals arriving via headers. Leo Pereira opened the scoring midway through the first half, rising highest to power a header into the roof of the net from a corner.

Pyramids struggled to respond and Flamengo doubled their advantage shortly after the break. Danilo ghosted in at the far post to meet another delivery, his downward header bouncing beyond goalkeeper Ahmed Elsennawy.

Fresh from lifting the Copa Libertadores two weeks ago, Flamengo continued their strong run after edging Cruz Azul 2-1 in the quarter-finals earlier in the week.

Their reward is a final clash with PSG, who entered the competition at the last stage as European champions.

The Intercontinental Cup features the winners of the six continental Champions League tournaments in a streamlined format designed to complement FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup, which is staged every four years.

Flamengo will now look to crown their Doha campaign with silverware when they face PSG on Wednesday.
