Fluminense are through to the last 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup after a goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in Miami ensured a second-place finish in Group F.
Sundowns needed all three points and started brightly, forcing several early saves from Fluminense keeper Fabio.
But the Brazilians weathered the storm and nearly went ahead before the break, with Nonato and Ignacio going close.
German Cano struck the post in the second half as Fluminense threatened on the counter, while Sundowns’ attacking rhythm faltered due to repeated offside calls.
Fluminense saw out the draw with little fuss and will now face the winners of Group E. Despite their exit, Sundowns depart with four points and plenty of pride from a spirited campaign.
