Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have advanced to the final of the WAFU B U-20 Championship after edging Niger Republic 4-3 on penalties in a tense semi-final showdown in Accra.
After a goalless 90 minutes, both sides headed straight to a shootout.
Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt saved Niger’s opening penalty, and despite Tahir Maigana missing for Nigeria, the Flying Eagles held their nerve to convert four spot-kicks to seal the win.
Ladan Bosso’s boys were dominant for large spells of the game, registering three off-target efforts in the first half, but struggled to break down a disciplined Nigerien defence that consistently dropped seven men behind the ball.
The result puts Nigeria into the final where they will face Ivory Coast who overcame hosts Ghana in the other semi-final fixture.
