Just as the United States experienced the resurgence of Donald Trump, Nigeria may encounter a similar scenario with former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) in 2027, particularly following a recent call by a northern group. The “Arewa Consensus for Jonathan,” a political organization based in northern Nigeria, is urging Jonathan to participate in the 2027 presidential race.
Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 and is widely recognized for his contributions to the advancement of democracy, especially for the dignified manner in which he relinquished power as an incumbent leader. His name frequently emerges as a pivotal point in discussions about Nigeria’s future leadership.
Alhaji Munir Musa, the leader of the group, made the appeal during a press conference in Bauchi, emphasizing that a return of Jonathan to Aso Rock in 2027 could significantly impact Nigeria’s economy and overall progress. Musa further asserted that Jonathan stands a strong chance of rescuing the country from the political and economic challenges currently faced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In his statement, Musa remarked, “The nation is at a crossroads, and we believe that Goodluck Jonathan is the right person to guide us out of the current malaise,” as he addressed reporters.
