Nollywood legend Genevieve Nnaji has strongly condemned a controversial social media post advising Igbo men to stop marrying Igbo women and instead seek wives from East Africa.

The post, which went viral after a photo of a Rwandan woman reportedly engaged to an Anambra man surfaced online, claimed Igbo women were prone to making false accusations and urged men to “pick a damsel” from countries like Rwanda.

The statement ignited fierce debate across social media, prompting Nnaji—long regarded as one of Nollywood’s most influential voices—to weigh in.

Responding to the user’s claims, the actress accused him of promoting harmful stereotypes and avoiding accountability.

“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it,” she wrote.

When challenged further, Nnaji maintained that generalising an entire group of women was unfair and dangerous.

“The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. Not all women,” she added.

Her response has set off fresh conversations online about cultural pride, gender stereotypes, and respect within relationships.
