Ghana defeated Nigeria 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout to win the inaugural WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup on Sunday at the Ghanaian Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The two sides had drawn 2-2 in regulation time, with Gertrude Amoafo and Priscilla Mensah giving Ghana an early lead, before Nigeria fought back with goals from Precious Oscar and Harmony Chidi.
In the shootout, Ghana held their nerve, converting all five penalties, while Nigeria missed one, allowing the hosts to claim the title.
Benin Republic secured third place after beating Côte d’Ivoire in another penalty shootout earlier in the day.
