Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the suspension of three top government officials, following resolutions passed by the State House of Assembly.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, on Wednesday, the governor said the decision reflects his respect for the rule of law and due process.

The suspended officials include, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba, Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, and Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper.

Each of them will serve a one-month suspension, effective immediately.

Governor Alia praised the House of Assembly for performing its constitutional duties and assured citizens that government services would not be interrupted during the suspension. He also urged residents to keep supporting his administration’s reforms aimed at building a better Benue.

The Assembly had earlier recommended six-month suspensions for the same officials, but the governor initially rejected that request.

Lawmakers responded by threatening to stop considering letters from the executive or screening commissioner nominees.

This latest action by Governor Alia is seen as a compromise move to ease tensions between the executive and the legislature.
