Manchester City edged past Newcastle 2-1 to keep the Premier League title race
alive, prompting Pep Guardiola to hail the result as “massive” in the chase for
Arsenal.
At the Etihad Stadium, Nico O’Reilly fired City ahead before Lewis Hall equalised.
The young midfielder struck again before half-time, and despite a nervy second half,
City held on to move within two points of the leaders.
“Massive. Newcastle is an incredible team,” Guardiola said. “Every single game will
be similar to today.”
City, who have a game in hand, would seal the title if they win their remaining 11
matches.
Guardiola praised O’Reilly’s maturity and admitted many in his reshaped squad are
new to the pressure of a run-in, but insisted his side are ready for the fight.
