The largest drawing created by an individual measures an impressive 1,004.7 m² (10,814.5 ft²) and was accomplished by Dr. Fola David-Tolaram from Nigeria on July 21, 2024, in Lagos. This remarkable achievement has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records (GWR) and marks a significant milestone. According to a publication on the GWR website on Thursday, November 14, 2024, Dr. Fola David-Tolaram, 31, has officially earned the title of Guinness World Record holder for the largest drawing by an individual.
The artwork, which spans the size of approximately 3.8 tennis courts, was painted on the pitch at Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos and serves as a celebration of Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity. Dr. David-Tolaram described his creation as a map of Nigeria, highlighting the country’s various cultures, clothing, and cuisine. He stated, “Nigeria is a multicultural nation. I wanted to create something that resonates with this diversity and provides an opportunity for people to celebrate their cultures.”
Leading up to this achievement, Dr. Fola embarked on a journey across different regions of Nigeria to immerse himself in its diverse cultures. Insights gained from this nationwide tour informed the creation of the masterpiece, which he completed in just six days.
Reflecting on the experience, he shared, “I remember standing at the center of this canvas, filled with apprehension and fear before starting the drawing. For five minutes, I prepared myself for this challenge, and as soon as my marker touched the canvas, all fear vanished.”

He received tremendous support from the enthusiastic crowds at the stadium, which he described as an electrifying atmosphere. Having grown up reading about Guinness World Records, Dr. Fola never envisioned himself as a record holder. He remarked, “Holding a Guinness World Records title feels absolutely surreal. I’m still processing the emotions of this experience, but I feel incredibly honored, distinguished, and officially amazing.”
Dr. Fola David-Tolaram’s journey exemplifies the essence of Nigerian creativity, resilience, and innovation, and we look forward to seeing how his work continues to inspire young people both in Nigeria and around the world.
