Erling Haaland struck twice as Manchester City eased past Everton 2–0 at the Etihad Stadium, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions.

Everton arrived hoping to end a miserable record in Manchester, but after a bright opening spell, their resistance was broken by the prolific Norwegian.

The visitors had the best early chance when Beto failed to convert Iliman Ndiaye’s teasing cross at the back post.

City, sluggish by their standards, saw Haaland rattle the bar with a header before Jeremy Doku’s curling effort was smartly saved by Jordan Pickford.

The Cityzens’ goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also denied Ndiaye at the other end before halftime to keep the match level.

The breakthrough finally came just before the hour mark when Haaland rose highest to head home Nico O’Reilly’s cross.

Five minutes later, he doubled the lead with a thunderous low strike from Savinho’s cutback, leaving Pickford with no chance.

Haaland has now scored 23 goals in 13 matches for club and country this season, and six in his last five meetings with Everton.

The win lifted City temporarily to the top of the Premier League table, while Everton’s long wait for victory at the Etihad — stretching back to 2010 — continues.
