Erling Haaland’s lethal finishing once again proved the difference as Manchester City cruised to a 3-1 win over Bournemouth, with the Norwegian star bagging a brace to take his Premier League tally to 13 goals this season.
Haaland’s first strike, a devastating run from halfway capped by an emphatic finish, drew particular praise from Pep Guardiola, who described it as “a goal full of determination.” The City boss could not hide his admiration for the 25-year-old, embracing him warmly after the final whistle.
“It’s the first goal, the way he kicked the ball down the grass. It’s like, ‘I’m going to score this,’” Guardiola said. “Did you see the numbers of that guy? Oh my God, of course he’s in that bracket, Cristiano, Messi… the only difference is they’ve done it for 15 years.”
The Spaniard also lauded Haaland’s humility and hunger to improve, adding, “He’s open-minded. Without him, it would be tough. We’re blessed to have such an incredible person, the sweetest and kindest and he’ll only get better.”
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola admitted his side struggled to contain the City striker. “It’s very difficult to play against him,” he said. “When you press high, he’s so fast. He changes everything.”
Midfielder David Brooks echoed his manager’s view: “It’s almost impossible to prepare for him. He’s six foot five, strong, and ruthless. You can’t give him a chance, he’ll take it.”
