Former Big Brother Naija star, Boma Akpore, has opened up about how a promising relationship that was headed for marriage abruptly collapsed due to family disapproval.
Speaking on a podcast with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Boma disclosed that he had been deeply in love and was preparing to propose to his partner last August. He said he even planned a trip to the United States to buy an engagement ring ahead of the proposal.
According to him, the relationship was strong and beautiful, with normal challenges but full of potential. However, everything came to a halt when his partner’s family rejected him outright, citing concerns about his lifestyle and public image.
Boma recalled the moment plans fell apart, saying:
“I met someone that I really liked, and I was going to marry. I was supposed to be engaging her like last August… It was an amazing relationship; we had a little bit of ups and downs, but it was perfect — till the family got involved and said, ‘This guy? Hell no, impossible.’”
The reality star described the experience as heartbreaking and discouraging, noting that being in the spotlight came at a personal cost.
He added that his fame and the scrutiny that comes with being a public figure played a major role in the family’s decision, stating:
“If I was not in the entertainment or public eye, nobody would know some things about me. Once you come to the public, that is the price you have to pay.”
Boma’s revelation has since stirred conversation online about celebrity relationships, image perception, and the pressure of public life.
