“I Fear for This Generation” — Woli Arole Criticises Modern Parenting Styles

Popular Nigerian comedian and preacher Woli Arole has expressed concern over what he described as declining parenting values among the current generation.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, Arole argued that parenting styles today appear weaker compared to those of previous generations.

According to him, parents in the past were more spiritually involved in raising their children. He noted that many parents regularly prayed for their children at midnight, anointed them with oil and took them to prayer mountains for spiritual guidance — practices he believes helped shape disciplined and responsible individuals.

However, the comedian criticised what he sees as a growing trend among some modern parents who prioritise nightlife, social media gossip and online disputes instead of focusing on their children’s upbringing.

He warned that such distractions could negatively influence children and lead to a generation with questionable values if the trend continues.

“I fear for this generation. Our parents put anointing oil on our heads, prayed for us at midnight, took us to the mountain—see the product of those labours,” he wrote.

“Some people in this generation are going from club to club, with lives full of gossip and dragging on social media. What will be the product of their kids? Shisha Baby!!!!” he added.
