Spain’s Paula Badosa has pulled out of the Charleston Open due to a recurring lower back injury, raising concerns about her fitness ahead of the clay-court season.
The former world No. 2, who battled chronic back issues last year, made a strong comeback with a semi-final run at the Australian Open but has since struggled with fitness.
She withdrew midway through her Merida quarter-final, skipped Indian Wells, and aggravated the injury again in Miami.
Badosa expressed frustration on Instagram, calling the repeated setbacks “tough to deal with” but vowed to focus on recovery.
With the French Open approaching in May, her return timeline remains uncertain.
