Inter Grind Past Como to Stay in Serie A Title Hunt

December 24, 2024
Inter

Inter Milan maintained their title chase with a steady 2-0 victory over Como at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, closing the gap on league leaders Atalanta to three points with a game in hand.
Despite a lackluster first-half display, Simone Inzaghi’s men secured their 14th win in 16 matches across all competitions.
The match began with Inter struggling to dominate, as Como, despite their Hollywood-backed ownership, proved resilient in midfield and limited the Nerazzurri’s chances.
Inter’s best first-half opportunities fell to Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco, but neither could beat veteran goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
The breakthrough came just after halftime when Carlos Augusto rose to meet Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s corner, heading past Reina to give Inter the lead.
Como’s Nico Paz tested Yann Sommer with a sharp effort from a corner, but the Swiss goalkeeper was up to the task.
Inter sealed the win in stoppage time through Marcus Thuram, who unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner, ensuring a vital three points to keep the reigning champions firmly in the title race.
