Inter Milan moved eight points clear at the top of Serie A after a dramatic 3-2 victory
over Juventus in the 255th Derby d’Italia, a night that saw Andrea Cambiaso score at
both ends in a chaotic San Siro showdown.
A frantic first half burst into life when Luis Henrique’s cross deflected heavily off
Cambiaso and wrongfooted Michele Di Gregorio to hand Inter the lead. Juventus
responded through Cambiaso at the back post after Weston McKennie’s cross caused
confusion in the box.
Inter twice struck the woodwork before the break through Piotr Zieliński and Alessandro
Bastoni, but Juve’s resistance took a hit when Pierre Kalulu was sent off for a second
booking just before half-time.
After the restart, Yann Sommer produced key saves to keep the hosts level before
Francesco Pio Esposito headed Inter back in front from Federico Dimarco’s cross, the
full-back registering his ninth goal involvement in five games. Manuel Locatelli briefly
restored parity with a crisp finish, yet Zieliński had the final say, drilling home late on to
seal the points.
The win makes it six in a row for Inter and extends their unbeaten league run to 13
matches, while Juventus have managed just one victory in their last five outings and
remain fourth.
