Inter Milan strengthened their grip on the Serie A title race with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Atalanta, moving three points clear at the summit.

The Nerazzurri completed a season sweep over their top-four rivals, having now beaten them three times without conceding in all competitions.

A clash between the league’s two highest-scoring teams promised fireworks, and within seven minutes, Lautaro Martínez slipped Marcus Thuram through on goal.

The Frenchman rounded goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, but his shot agonizingly clipped the inside of the post and bounced out.

Atalanta nearly capitalized moments later when Mario Pašalić met Marten de Roon’s cross, only for Yann Sommer to make a stunning save.

However, both sides struggled to create clear openings for the remainder of the first half, with Alessandro Bastoni and Ademola Lookman firing wide from distance.

After five consecutive home clean sheets in Serie A, Atalanta’s resistance was finally broken in the 54th minute.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu delivered a precise corner, and an unmarked Carlos Augusto powered home a header for his third league goal of the season.

Inter nearly doubled their lead soon after, with Çalhanoğlu testing Carnesecchi from range before Martínez had a goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up.

Atalanta, meanwhile, managed just one tame shot on target in the second half, as Sommer comfortably dealt with Lazar Samardžić’s effort.

Frustrations boiled over late on when Ederson picked up two bookings in quick succession—one for fouling Thuram and another for his reaction to referee Davide Massa.

Inter capitalized on their numerical advantage, sealing the win in the 86th minute as Martínez smashed home past Carnesecchi.

Despite Bastoni’s red card in stoppage time, Simone Inzaghi’s men ended their four-game winless streak on the road and tightened their grip on the title race.

Meanwhile, Atalanta’s struggles continue, with Gian Piero Gasperini also sent off as his side remain winless at home in Serie A in 2025.
