IPMAN Sets Up Task Force To Curb Fuel Pump Fraud

August 25, 2025

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has unveiled new measures to tackle fuel pump manipulation and other sharp practices at filling stations.

Chairman of the Enugu unit, Chinedu Anyaso, disclosed this in Enugu on Sunday after the association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM). The unit covers independent marketers across Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, parts of Abia, Imo, Kogi, and Cross River States.

Anyaso said members unanimously resolved to uphold fuel pump integrity to guarantee that Nigerians get full value for their money. He explained that a dedicated task force will be inaugurated in September to monitor compliance, with enforcement teams stationed in each state.

“To sanitise the system and protect IPMAN’s reputation, members at the AGM agreed that fuel pump cheating must end. A daily mandate task force will soon be operational, and any member found guilty of malpractice will face heavy fines and strict sanctions,” he stated.

He added that the association will also adopt firm internal disciplinary actions against offenders, similar to its previous efforts in eliminating the circulation of bad fuel.

Anyaso commended state governments within the zone for improvements in infrastructure, particularly roads and security. However, he revealed that members would write again to Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo regarding fuel station levies and the state’s N900 million debt owed to IPMAN members for diesel supplied to power streetlights.

“The debt has lingered for over a year despite three official letters and direct appeals. Nothing has been done. We prefer dialogue to avoid industrial action, but if members withdraw services, petrol could rise to between N2,000 and N3,000 per litre in Anambra, with severe consequences,” he warned.

He further lamented that at least eight members in Anambra had died within months due to stress and financial strain from the unpaid debts, while some stations had shut down or been taken over by banks, resulting in job losses.

According to him, the AGM also addressed welfare issues, strategies for product lifting, and members’ participation in the Dangote Direct Sales and Delivery Scheme, alongside the JEZCO Oil and Gas support package.
