Iran Confirms Khamenei’s Death After US-Israel Strikes, Declares 40 Days of Mourning
Iranian state television on Sunday announced that the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed following a wave of bombardments carried out by the United States and Israel.
The state broadcaster did not immediately provide detailed circumstances surrounding his death.
Iranian authorities, however, declared 40 days of national mourning as the country grapples with the loss of its highest political and religious authority.
The Supreme National Security Council said Khamenei was killed at his office early on Saturday, describing his death as the beginning of what it termed a “great uprising against the tyrants of the world.”
In a strongly worded statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed to “decisively avenge” the killing, declaring that “the hand of revenge of the Iranian people will not let go of the killers of the Imam.” The elite force added that martyrdom in the path of Islam and what it described as “Greater Iran” represents victory and a step toward its ultimate goal.
According to the IRGC, Khamenei’s path “will not stop after his martyrdom, but will continue with strength and grandeur,” urging citizens across all sectors to participate in national defence gatherings to demonstrate unity against what it called enemies and terrorists.
The corps further insisted that the killing would only strengthen national resolve to pursue what it described as Khamenei’s illuminating path.
Earlier on Saturday night, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Khamenei was “dead,” describing him as “one of the most evil people in history.”
The development marks a dramatic escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Iran, the United States and Israel, with fears mounting over possible retaliation and wider regional instability.
