Riccardo Calafiori will miss Italy’s Nations League quarter-final second leg against Germany after suffering a knee injury in Thursday’s 2-1 first-leg defeat at San Siro, the Italian Football Association (FIGC) confirmed.

The Arsenal defender limped off in stoppage time after slipping while changing direction and underwent tests on Friday.

The FIGC announced that Calafiori has been ruled out and will return to his club for further recovery.

Italy are already without Mateo Retegui, who withdrew through injury before the first leg, as they prepare to face Germany in Dortmund on Sunday.

Calafiori, who joined Arsenal from Bologna in July, has struggled with injuries this season, previously missing nine Premier League games due to a similar knee issue. His club’s next match is against Fulham on April 1.
